Excerpt | Snowball Unwrapped

When the woman you think is your nemesis is actually her twin sister in disguise…

Without thinking it through first, Ben stooped over and grabbed the inn’s cat up, only she went wild in his grasp going after his hands and arms, trying to get away. At the same time, Angel attacked his ankles trying to get to Snowball.

Gritting his teeth, he managed not to drop one or kick the other. “A little help, please.”

Isaac lunged for Angel, managing to grab her before she tried to climb Ben like a tree.

“Oh my goodness.” Ilse rushed over. Not to take the Snowball, who stopped fighting and was now clinging to his brand-new jacket with her claws sunk in through the material and down to the skin…but to pet her. “Poor baby,” Ilse murmured soothingly.

Me or the cat?

“You’re shivering,” she said.

So the cat. Never mind the maimed human.

Thankfully, the cat calmed at her touch, retracting her claws.A string of swearwords poured from Isaac at Ilse’s back as he tried to corral Angel. A cat, incidentally, that looked exactly like the one Ben was holding. All white, big blue eyes, just a tiny bit larger. He might have assumed the two cats had come from the same litter if he didn’t know better.

Every detail of which abandoned him when Ilse raised her own blue-eyed gaze to his—eyes sparkling with a gratefulness that hit him right in the solar plexus. “You saved her,” she whispered.

Like he was suddenly hero material in her eyes.

Ben had no idea what to do with this Ilse.

All he could do was stare right back. Flummoxed. Maybe she was buttering him up so that he’d listen to her ideas more? If she’d bothered to collaborate with him from the beginning, she would have learned that he always listened to other ideas. Unlike her.

Ben cleared his throat. “All I did was save the studio from a lawsuit.”

With a screech to wake the dead, Angel was shoved unceremoniously back into the cat carrier.
